Inspired by Omar’s comment on one of my posts, I remembered an argument I had with a friend some time ago J
The argument was Do we MAKE our luck or does it just happen?? My friend was saying that he doesn’t believe in luck and that people make their luck either better or worst! On the other hand I was saying, NOOOOO you are either born lucky or not! J
His argument was if you work hard to achieve something then your luck changes! My counter argument on that was okay so what if I was born in one of the really poor countries and don’t even have food to work hard to achieve something. I was trying to point out that maybe we are destined to live in a certain way and that sometimes no matter how hard you work .. you were just born in the wrong part of the world so UNLUCKY! We talked a lot about this and none of us was convinced J
I went up to google and here is something I’d like to share! Theories, Experiments, and results! I’ll make it as short as possible although I Love making stories longer J
A paper I read was about defense theory and Control Theory! The paper is called : Control or defense, Depression and the sense of control over good and bad outcomes.
Defense theory : The theory suggests that people BY NATURE are least depressed if they claim responsibility for good outcomes and deny it over bad ones. So when you are a manager you say OH I WORKED hard! And when you fail a course at university you say : the professor just hated me am just never lucky with professors J ( I used that excuse alllllllllllll the time )
Control theory: states that active, effective problem solving builds well-being; thus a sense of personal control and responsibility for both success and failure is associated with low levels of depression. ( so you give credit for YOURSELF when something good happens and you feel that YOU have done something wrong when something bad happens)
Which theory is right? Well NONE! After the study was made the results assured that blaming something on outer factors or blaming yourself for it is not what counts! It is the feeling of not being in control of outcomes! “Depression is associated with not feeling in control of good outcomes, or of bad outcomes, or of both. The sense of control reflects the reality of social and economic status. It explains part of the relationship between status and depression. We infer that defensive illusions are no substitute for genuine control.”
Why don’t you google it yourself!
Here are some tips on LUCK!
Do not dwell on the past or exist in the future!
Live in the moment, in an attitude of gratitude.
If you feel lost and sad, then watch a sunrise, hug a tree, lift your eyes to the heavens and you will be comforted, because that is what nature is meant to do.
Accept your defeats, flower where you are planted, and you will realize that you are much more capable than you gave yourself credit for.
Spread Love, joy and goodwill and the Universe will return it to you with interest!
Why worry? I have read somewhere that ‘today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday’.
I have also realized that we are unhappy because of our own conditionings. It has been imposed on our belief system that we can only be happy if we are rich, famous, powerful etc. Question your beliefs and superimpose them with a new belief that states that you will be happy no matter what!
Recognize that you hurt because your ego has been bruised or your desire has been obstructed by an obstacle!
After having done your best, leave the rest! Surrender to Life and Its wisdom! Have faith!
